In a recent interview with CBS Evening News, President Joe Biden hinted that the U.S may not reach herd immunity until Thanksgiving or even the start of winter, saying it would be “very difficult” due to a population-wide resistance to the virus and the current daily rate of approximately 1.3 million vaccine doses.
CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell asked President Biden about the difficulties of getting 75% of Americans vaccinated and said the math would take them almost a year to get there. “That’s why– one of the disappointments was– when we came to office, is the circumstance relating to how the administration was handling COVID was even more dire than we thought,” President Biden said.
President Biden blamed the Trump administration and said they “had indicated there was a lot more vaccine available” but that “didn’t turn out to be the case.” The goalposts for a return to normality have been pushed by the left’s broad vaccination campaigns, further extending life under government-mandated orders.
Other top officials such as chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci have also said the herd immunity threshold, set at 75%-80%, could be met as early as the end of summer or fall if more Americans are vaccinated by the second quarter of 2021. He spoke at a Harvard-hosted event where he claimed that “some degree of relief” and low infection rates would reach communities soon.
“Let’s say we get 75 percent, 80 percent of the population vaccinated. If we do that, if we do it efficiently enough over the second quarter of 2021, by the time we get to the end of the summer, i.e., the third quarter, we may actually have enough herd immunity protecting our society that as we get to the end of 2021, we can approach very much some degree of normality that is close to where we were before,” he said.
Dr. Fauci also said the same thing in a separate MSNBC interview, but then aligned his claims with Biden’s about not reaching herd immunity until Thanksgiving prior to the Super Bowl, months later than originally calculated. He has changed the percentage of herd immunity rates numerous times, even admitting to the New York Times that they “don’t know what the real number is” and estimated it “between 70 to 90 percent.”
At this rate, nobody really knows how many Americans need to be vaccinated before reaching herd immunity, but they keep pointing the finger at former President Trump for moving the goalposts. In actuality, Democrats want to suffocate the small business industry and keep everyone at home with a government check.
