Mayor Lightfoot’s Publicized Indecisiveness

The problem with Democrats is that they tend to blame every little thing on former President Trump, even when he is no longer in office. During a recent segment of CNN’s “New Day,” Mayor Lori Lightfoot blamed Chicago schools for having so much difficulty returning students to in-person classroom teaching on the Trump Administration.

Chicago Public School students were supposed to return to in-person learning this week but had been stopped by the Chicago Teachers Union, who have long opposed returning students to the classroom. The union warned that members would picket if they were denied access to the programs they had been using to teach remotely.

The Chicago teachers union said they would fight to keep virtual instruction until every teacher was vaccinated and started a war with public schools over whether or not COVID-19 remained a threat. They said this was not about wins or losses, but about the safety of the pandemic. Public schools, however, argued that the science sides with reopening since there have been virtually zero links between COVID-19 transmissions and students returning to school.

When asked by mainstream media platforms on why Chicago students have been so absent from the classroom, Mayor Lightfoot suggested that it had something to do with a “non-existent rollout plan” under Trump. She said that it was important for both sides to “come to the table in good faith” and recognize that there is a lot of work to get done through a very challenging situation. Interesting choice of words to use before blaming the former President.

“This is a very difficult situation and we’re in it, still, because of the incompetence of the previous administration. So I think it’s important for both sides to come to the table in good faith, recognize that we’re both trying to work through a very challenging situation but we must get a deal done,” Mayor Lightfoot said.

This marked a reversal from what she’d said just a day earlier on MSNBC when talking about working with the Biden administration on their “uniquely local issue” and laid blame on the city’s dueling factions.

She talked about implementing a state strategy that could support safely reopening schools and warned that her administration will take action against teachers who do not report back to work. She said the unexcused absences could eventually cost teachers their jobs if they did not pledge to remain at the bargaining table to reach an agreement with public schools. Not once Mayor Lightfoot mention the Trump Administration or his vaccine rollout plan.

Mayor Lightfoot should be lashing out at the teachers union and not Trump for refusing to reopen, but her failures are too publicized at this point to blame anyone else. She was supposed to be with the party that “follows the science,” but couldn’t even follow through with that.

Why not point the finger at someone else then, right?
