Since President Joe Biden joined the Major League Baseball’s boycott of their games being played in the state of Georgia, others have questioned why the White House hasn’t had a say in boycotting the 2022 Olympic Games, which are set to take place in Beijing, China. If the administration supports boycotting sporting events over voting laws, then what would they think of playing professional sports in a communist country?
Since sports and activism have been mixed into a purely political game, the businesspeople of Georgia must now pay the price. Biden should be boycotting the Olympic Games over the Chinese government’s alleged abuses, unjust imprisonment of Uyghur Muslims, and refusal to take any responsibility in the COVID-19 outbreak, but he hasn’t. Because it’s only an ‘attack’ on human rights when it harms the left-wing agenda.
Rep. Buddy Carter first criticized President Biden, Stacey Abrams, and Raphael Warnock’s call to penalize Georgia on Fox Business’s “Cavuto: Coast to Coast.” Mind you, these political leaders haven’t elaborated on what part of the new law results in “voter suppression.”
“And you have achieved what you set out to achieve, taking money out of the pockets of small business people, many of them minority businesspeople. You should be ashamed of what you’ve done here. And the president of the United States, who sits back and does nothing with Communist China when they are violating human rights over there, but when you ask him about Beijing and the 2022 Olympics, no comment whatsoever,” Rep. Carter said.
State Department chief spokesman Ned Price shared that the administration might possibly boycott the games a few days ago and told reporters that what the United States does has to be meaningful. He said the Biden Administration would have to consider the government in Beijing, including their “egregious human rights violations” and its “conduct of genocide in the case of Xinjiang.” He concludes his statement that a joint boycott is something the State Department is considering.
But according to White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Price’s statements were “misinterpreted.” She first talked about the health factors in regards to US participation in the games, adding that they will rely on health and medical experts to determine COVID-19 vaccination rates. She then said that the administration has no plans to boycott the games whatsoever.
“Our position on the 2022 Olympics has not changed. We have not discussed and are not discussing any joint boycott with allies and partners. We of course consult closely with allies and partners at all levels to define our common concerns and establish a shared approach, but there’s no discussion underway of a change in our plans regarding the Beijing Olympics from the United States’ point of view,” Psaki said.
Sen. Mitt Romney is one of the politicians calling for an “economic and diplomatic boycott” of the 2022 Winter Olympics. He wrote that American athletes, families, and coaches should stay home and prevent from contributing to the enormous revenues that the Chinese Communist Party will raise from hotels, meals, and tickets. “American corporations that routinely send large groups of their customers and associates to the Games should send them to U.S venues instead,” he writes.
The Biden Administration will call the state of Georgia’s voting ID laws “Jim Crow” but turn a blind eye to the child slave labor occurring in China. Securing elections are bad and human rights abuses are good, that’s a Democrat’s logic.
