Mayor Lightfoot Lets Crime Run Rampant In Chicago

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is often portrayed in the mainstream liberal media as a strong leader ready to battle it out with every single Republican. And now, two years before the end of her term, the failing blue state is experiencing failed businesses, rising crime, officers leaving the force, and a slowing economy.

Democrats seem to forget that if you reward certain behavior, you’ll get more of it, including street protests, property destruction, looting, and burning. Chicago has fallen and Mayor Lightfoot is to blame. But don’t worry, the Black Lives Matter movement will “fix” Chicago’s cultural mess.

At least 26 people were shot, five fatally, over Mother’s Day Weekend from Friday into Sunday morning in Chicago. One of the fatalities was a 14-year-old boy who was shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. A 29-year-old man was shot and killed while sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the 6000 block of North California Avenue. Multiple people also exited a vehicle and opened fire on an individual walking in the 3400 block of West 18th Street.

The Chicago Tribune points out that 1,102 people were shot in Chicago from January 1, 2021, through May 11, 2021. 201 people have been killed this year, which is 35 more than the same period in 2020. Lightfoot has had a prickly relationship with the press over the last few months on their critical reporting and even canceled her subscription to the Chicago Tribune after saying one of their editorials essentially called her a liar.

The story was regarding Lightfoot’s fallen pledge to relax parking ticket enforcement during the early stages of the pandemic. The headline read: “Despite Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s announcement of ticketing relief during the pandemic, thousands received parking citations anyway: ‘It’s a betrayal, just absolutely ridiculous.’”

The reporting includes a letter from Lightfoot staff members to the company that profits off the city’s parking meters that they should continue ticketing cars parked at the expired meters in the Downtown area. They wrote that the cars created a public safety hazard, which is contrary to what Lightfoot has told the public. She told state residents twice at a news conference last year that cars parked at expired meters would have their fines ‘relaxed.’

Mayor Lightfoot highlighted in a September 22. email to media staff members that the next time the Tribune comes out with some big expose or a screaming headline, they should consider the source.

“Recently, reporting from the Tribune regarding me and my administration got it completely wrong. And then the editorial board doubled down and effectively called me a liar. I have never claimed perfection, and having journalists and others take shots at you goes with the territory as Mayor of Chicago. I have thick skin for many things but I will never be silent when someone calls me a liar, in public, particularly when they are dead wrong,” Lightfoot wrote.


Lightfoot said one of the most important things we have in life is our reputation and that she wasn’t going to “stand idly by and let anyone sully mine without setting things straight.” But Tribune’s Editor-in-Chief Colin McMahon told media sources this isn’t the first time the Chicago mayor has criticized the Tribune and it won’t be the last. “The Tribune stands by its reporting,” he said.

Lightfoot has also gone after local reporters, including Greg Pratt, who covers City Hall. She called Pratt’s reporting of the Anjanette Young raid “reckless and irresponsible,” adding that it is now a pattern of his stretching back many months. She incorrectly insisted that Ms. Young had not requested video of the raid prior to a federal lawsuit she filed, but later dropped. Lightfoot acknowledged Pratt the next day and apologized to Pratt for the “helpful feedback” after her comments.

“I can never let my frustrations and my emotions get the better of me and I think I did yesterday,” she said

She’s also had countless confrontations with NBC5 reporter Mary Ann Ahern and countless City Hall staff members over her personal life.

Chicago, which was once a great city, has become another piece of leftist land in the country full of anti-police rhetoric and crime running rampant. Between the spikes in crime, dozens of officers leaving the force, and Lightfoot’s complicated relationship with the press and the media, this is the exact opposite of what a successful leader looks like…or what Chicago needs.
