Biden Admin Asks Gov. Noem For More Guards At The Border After Mocking It As A Political Gesture

Published on

President Joe Biden recently caved and reached out to ask South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem for more National Guard troops to help secure the southern border. While she was heavily criticized for initially sending 50 South Dakota guard members to the border, it seems like the request might be a wake-up call.

Gov. Noem announced at the end of June that she would be sending up to 50 National Guard troops to the southwest border for 30 to 60 days. The White House responded to this as nothing more than a “political gesture” and unusual situation in South Dakota with the National Guard.

A reporter claimed that a private donation was being used to fund the deployment, in which the White House responded that they were focused on “putting in the work and delivering the solutions.” They said that the progress made at the southern border in the first 150 days of the administration is “pretty clear” of that. The Biden Administration has continued to deny the border crisis they caused by reversing Trump-era policies.

Now, Gov. Noem has shared that the U.S Department of Homeland Security and the National Guard Bureau sent her a request for additional Guards at the border. She said she would send an additional 125 members of the South Dakota National Guard for nine to twelve months in federal pay status and stationed as security along the Mexican border in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

“Our South Dakota National Guard is the very best in the country, and they are prepared for the sustained response the national security crisis at our southern border requires. I am hopeful that this mission indicates the Biden Administration is waking up to the devastating situation at the border. The border is a national security crisis that requires the kind of sustained response only the National Guard can provide,” Gov. Noem said.

Gov. Noem adds that the border town communities should not have to risk sending their own police or Highway Patrol to fix a long-term problem that the Biden Administration seems unwilling to solve. About 3,000 Guards from several states are now involved in this mission.

And now, Wyoming is looking at sending National Guard troops to help bolster security at the southern border. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey wrote other state governors last month seeking help in dealing with the border crisis. Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon said they would evaluate available resources to support protect the country.

Former Customs and Border Protection Deputy Commissioner Robert Perez shared that the border crisis right now is unlike what he’s ever seen. He said the department hasn’t seen numbers like that in 20 years and urged Congress to fix the country’s “broken and porous” immigration systems. The border crisis drew more attention by the mainstream media after CBP reported more than 180,000 migrant encounters in May alone.

“These are national security issues that we deal with on the border well beyond just the movement of illegal migrants. That, in and of itself, those movements of those illegal migrants, here is the second point, is operated and controlled by criminal organizations,” Perez warned.

Perez said that the border crisis gets oversimplified by too many too often and stressed that it was not just a case of rising numbers, but illegal activity connected to it. He said that criminal organizations abuse vulnerable populations for profit and make it dangerous for everyone. He said that the activity is laced with drug trafficking, human trafficking, counterfeiting, gangs, and wanted criminals.

Perez said it was already a broken system that got worse when the Biden Administration reversed key Trump-era policies, like the border wall construction and the “Remain in Mexico policy.” He praised the CBP officials for getting the national security job done effectively and efficiently for the sake of the nation.

The more Guards that are sent to the border, the more you can see the result of Democrat policies. While some could argue that the system is “broken,” others say there’s just a lack of incompetence to get the job done.
