Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently suggested that Florida-based companies should shift to providing internet access to Cuba after the communist government shut off the internet to its citizens. There have been violent protests in the street against the government and communism.
āWhat does the regime do when you start to see these images? They shut down the internet. They donāt want the truth to be out, they donāt want people to be able to communicate. And so one of the things I think we should be able to do with our private companies or with the United States is to provide some of that internet via satellite. We have companies on the Space Coast that launch these things,ā DeSantis said.
The Florida governor adds that he would reach out to Florida internet providers to see if there is any way they can make his plan a reality. Cuban protesters can even be heard chanting āwhere is Biden?ā as they called on him to take action. President Joe Biden released a weak statement earlier this week saying that the White House stands with the Cuban people through their āeconomic suffering,ā but refused to use the words socialism or communism in his statement.
Bidenās Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas even said that if Cubans attempted to flee to the United States, then they will not be welcome. He said that ātime is never right to attempt migration by seaā and that you will ānot come to the United States.ā He said it is a risk not worth taking. The real reason Mayorkas made that statement is that most Cubans reject socialist/communist ideas and that does not work with the radical-left narrative.
Cuba has continued to block social media sites and stop protesters from coordinating with each other. They were blocking Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram. Twitter is still being used by protesters to broadcast evidence that the Cuban government is engaging in a violent crackdown. Cubaās police are seen arresting, detaining, and physically harming pro-democracy protesters.
DeSantis also criticized the White Houseās weak response that the protests are motivated by COVID-19 mismanagement. He said that nobody was in the streets revolting over a lack of vaccine, they were revolting against a corrupt, communist dictatorship that has ruled that island for over 60 years. They were revolting over long lines and shortages of food and medicine.
Even FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr said that the technology exists to get around Cubaās internet blockade. DeSantis mentioned this in a letter to President Joe Biden and said they have the innovation of American enterprise to create a means for the Cuban people to speak to the world.
āI urge you to act immediately to provide all necessary authorizations, indemnifications, and funding to American businesses with the capability to provide Internet access for the people of Cuba. Steps must be taken immediately. Internet access for the Cuban people is of critical importance as they stand up against the repressive Communist government. In the hands of these brave individuals, such access may be the key to finally bringing democracy to the island,ā DeSantis wrote.
Gov. DeSantis is stepping up to the plate and vowing to help Cuban citizens reconnect their internet. Homeland Security is telling pro-democracy Cubans to stay away and the Commander-in-Chief is letting the Cartel do their business along the southern border. President Bidenās agenda is everything anti-democracy.
