According to a recent report from the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement office, about 50,000 illegal migrants have been let into the U.S without court dates. When migrants were first apprehended by border officials, they were not issued notices and instead told to check in with the ICE office to schedule a court date. So far, only 13% of them have bothered to show up and issue their hearings. Not a surprise.
Thousands have surpassed their 60-day notices and more towns are experiencing spikes in COVID-19 cases, crime, and a drain in already stretched state budgets. According to the report, only 6,700 migrants who crossed between mid-March and mid-July showed up at ICE offices. 16,000 have not shown up to check in with ICE offices and already passed the 60-day reporting window. Roughly 27,000 migrants have yet to report but remain within the 60-day time frame.
The number of migrant encounters at the southern border has been climbing every month and some officials say it is “unprecedented” for agents to be releasing them without official notice to appear in court. “Unprecedented” seems to be in place of the word “incompetence.”
Migrants have been given a list of addresses and contacts for ICE offices across the country and simply “told” to report to one of them. While individuals have had 60 days to reach out to ICE and begin their official immigration process, those who do not report without legal status are “subject to removal by ICE.” While there have been high hopes that migrants show up to the office, ICE officials have been turning a blind eye to the poor turnout.
Former President Donald Trump’s immigration policy chief advisor Stephen Miller said the recent report was just the “tip of the iceberg” pertaining to the Biden Administration’s lack of transparency. He said they need total accountability and public awareness of the immigration numbers, instead of the “little snippets leaking out in stories.” He said the Biden Administration keeps trying to maintain the border crisis by controlling what information is provided to the public.
“They have an affirmative obligation and duty to inform and advise the American public what they are doing in the public’s name and with public taxpayer dollars and with public resources. We all welcome every time there is a leak that can begin to shed some additional light on this open borders scheme,” Miller said.
Miller insists that the Biden Administration needs to release the official data pertaining to the extent of the catch and release across the border of the United States.
Sen Tom. Cotton called this Biden’s way of trying to “sneak through massive amnesty,” which has been included in the infrastructure bill recently passed by the House. It is now in the Senate.
Others pointed out how President Biden’s policies are being implemented along the border without even notifying the local officials and law enforcement. Illegal aliens are flooding border town communities, with many farmers and politicians calling on the White House to clean up the mess.
But Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is too busy polishing his State of Homeland Security Speech and self-quarantining to notice the border. Even Vice President and “border czar” Kamala Harris has only bothered border towns for a photo-op. The White House is trying to re-mask America and let thousands of untested migrants into the country at the same time. It’s clear that the Biden Administration is more focused on the “image” of the border than support for the border itself. And it’s working exactly as he planned it.
