The chairman of the Minneapolis Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, Devin Hogan, recently defended one of his previous statements about the Minneapolis Police Department in an Aug. 2 op-ed piece for the Southside Pride, a local monthly magazine. The piece was first reported in the Washington Times.
Hogan wrote that he supported the burning down of the Minneapolis city police department last May and called it a “proportional response” to the treatment of Black people by police. He emphasized how he valued substance over decorum and called the violence an “act of pure righteousness” in the face of George Floyd’s murder. He claimed that the cops started it and lost all credibility over his extreme leftist rhetoric.
The Minneapolis city council committee approved $4.8 million in spending last August to temporarily rent a new building, as well as renovate the old one. While the majority of City Council members said they would support disbanding the department entirely, a Minneapolis commission said they would need more time to reveal.
“They killed George Floyd and took every opportunity to escalate, agitate and make things worse. The cops are rioting and the people are responding. Like it or not, setting the Third Precinct on fire was a genuinely revolutionary moment. An act of pure righteousness to open new worlds of understanding,” Hogan wrote.
He went on to say that people have declared themselves “ungovernable” and took their power back through the largest international human rights movement in modern history. He claimed that the cops started it and the “youth of Minneapolis” has carried it. He called the madness and violence in the streets “genuine liberation” with work that continues to keep its “eye on the prize.” He said that people must remember the demand of the streets and the blood and treasure spent.
Another member of the DFL board, Ken Martin, slammed Hogan’s comments and clarified that they do not reflect the views of the Minnesota DFL Party or any elected officials in their party. He called Hogan’s language dangerous, violent, and inflammatory.
National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Rep. Tom Emmer also emphasized that Hogan’s piece is more proof that the Democrats only want to advance their radical agenda and not the safety of Americans. He said “there’s no denying it” that Devin Hogan, John Thompson, and Cori Bush, continue to lead efforts in defunding the police.
Hogan has continued to claim that people are misinterpreting his views when he was really just trying to convey how protesters felt at the time in response to their conditions. He said people felt desperate and defensive after Floyd’s murder and that the destruction was an appropriate response. Hogan went on to say that board member Martin is “very good at his job” but that he does not advocate for violence as he has claimed.
It’s hard to believe a person is not advocating violence when they call a burning police department building an “act of pure righteousness,” but Hogan has pushed back that people are assigning the word “righteousness” with moral value. Arguably, a person would. The textbook definition of righteousness has to do with the quality of being morally right or justifiable. Only a liberal would play word salad to strip original definitions and allot their own meanings.
Hogan tried to say that he was describing the conditions of “violent repression,” not condoning it. He said fetishizing decorum over substance was a hallmark of white supremacy and said those who felt offense need to examine the role they play in maintaining and upholding these systems. He accused offended people of having “lizard brain emotions” that distracted them from injustice and asked people to recognize the patterns used to diffuse movements. He said the constant surveillance, hyper-militarization, and “macho bullsh**” give people a fake sense of comfort when it is really meant to burn people out.
The Minnesota Supreme Court has also denied Minneapolis’ request to hire more police officers. The suit was filed by residents of Hawthorne and Jordan neighborhoods over decreased staffing levels and a spike in crime.
While Mayor Jacob Frey ensured that they will take all necessary action to ensure funding a police force, it doesn’t seem to be the case. No details were provided regarding the court’s decision, but a city spokesperson shared that they will continue to pursue an appeal in the appeals court. The city is required to employ 730 sworn officers by the end of June 2022 in order to fulfill the ratio of residents to police officers in the city.
Democrats have grown into full-on terrorists by promoting violence in the name of race. They get all of the news coverage they need and flame the fires of hate against cops while doing nothing to acknowledge the spiking crime in their cities. They encourage the behavior and enable thugs to do the absolute wrong thing – all in the name of “justice,” of course.
