In the midst of President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal in Afghanistan, Reps. Ralph Norman and Andy Harris have introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of State Antony Blinken for his failure to uphold the leadership over the Afghanistan situation. The impeachment suit declares that Secretary Blinken failed to advise and counsel the President accordingly, and did not inform Congress or American citizens at the home of the danger.
While President Biden said he would take the fall for the horrific events happening in Afghanistan, he has still tried to pin things on former president Donald Trump. He was recently asked by a reporter if he “bears any responsibility for the way that things have unfolded in the last two weeks.” Biden said he blamed “the way things unfolded” on the former president who made a deal with the Taliban to get all Americans out of Afghanistan by May 1. It’s almost September and Biden is still struggling to hold on to his own withdrawal date.
“Secretary Blinken has failed to faithfully uphold his oath and has instead presided over a reckless abandonment of our nation’s interests, security, and values in his role in the withdrawal of American forces and diplomatic assets from Afghanistan,” the impeachment suit reads.
There has been more support to impeach Blinken after U.S officials reportedly handed the Taliban terrorists a list of names of Americans, green card holders, and Afghan allies. The list of names was given to the Taliban so that they could let evacuees through the enemy lines, but some have dubbed the list as a “kill list.” They criticized the Biden Administration for relying on the Taliban for security and giving them specific names. It’s almost as if they forgot that the Taliban is still a terrorist organization that has a history of killing any Afghan who collaborates with the U.S.
Other reps have also called for the impeachment of Blinken such as Reps. Mary Miller, Mike Johnson, Don Bacon, Chris Stewart, and Jackie Walorski.
Since the Taliban takeover, two suicide bombers and gunmen have attacked crowds of people headed to the airport. It was reported that these attacks came from ISIS, another terrorist organization, attempting to establish its presence in the country.
In a recent Pentagon press briefing, Gen. Kenneth McKenzie shared that they expect the attacks to continue and that they are doing everything they can, including reaching out to the Taliban. He said they are providing the “outer security of the airfield” to make sure they’re protecting us as we go forward. At this point, trusting the Taliban and relying on them for security is just another indication of a failed government.
If the Democratic Party needs a “scapegoat to sacrifice” for everything that happened in Afghanistan, there might be a lot more people getting behind this impeachment than expected. They don’t want to lose President Biden as they know VP Kamala Harris would be even worse.
Blinken either directly overruled or forced the overruling of recommendations of the military advisors to continue through with the operation. At this point, the GOP should also draw up documents of impeachment for Biden, Harris, every cabinet member, and every senior official at the State, Defense, and Intelligence. The Biden Administration has demonstrated failure upon failure in protecting American citizens from the hands of the Taliban. Now, someone has to take the fall.
