Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas Admits They Cannot Continue The Border Situation, Calls It Unsustainable

Published on

In recently leaked audio from a meeting with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, he told agents that they “cannot continue” the situation on the border and that the government’s system was not designed to handle the surge of migrants. In July, Border Patrol agents apprehended about 210,000 migrants, which is a 13% increase from June. Numbers have continued to climb under the Biden Administration and border Czar Kamala Harris is anything but present.

“A couple of days ago, I was down in Mexico, and I said look, you know, if, if our borders are the first line of defense, we’re going to lose, and this is unsustainable. We can’t continue like this, our people in the field can’t continue, and our system isn’t built for it,” Mayorkas said.

Mayorkas said it has been “one of the toughest challenges we face” and announced that he was seeking 2,000 new agents in the 2023 budget. He applauded the heroic efforts of the border patrol officials during this time and adds that the extent of the challenge should not be understated. Socialist Democrats have continued to claim that Republicans are “exaggerating” the border crisis.

During the meeting, one of the agents shared how they don’t need to “reinvent the wheel” and that they know exactly how to shut it down. The agent said some of them have been around for long enough to know that they need to make illegal entry illegal, which is against some of the Biden Administration’s campaign promises.

One of the most prominent examples has been President Joe Biden’s attempt to try and dismantle Title 42, a Trump=era policy that turns away almost every single adult and many families. Biden has also halted the funds for the construction of Trump’s border wall and reversed almost all of his immigration policies, including a 100-day moratorium on deportations.

Sen. Ted Cruz even concluded in a tweet that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the “root causes” of the border crisis. He called them out for bringing back catch and release, halting construction of the border wall, and ending the “Remain In Mexico” policy.

Other top Republicans have pleaded with the Biden Administration to act on the crisis, adding that even the homeland security secretary believes that the situation there is “unsustainable.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said he was glad to hear that Secretary Mayorkas agrees before asking what their plan is to fix it. Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel also called out the leaked audio before criticizing Biden and Harris for their lack of action. Even Sen. Josh Hawley said it was the “most honest words” he’s heard from the mouth of Secretary Mayorkas. “Joe Biden has totally lost control of the border,” he tweeted.

Some, such as Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, have even called on Mayorkas to resign. He said they don’t need “defeatist” fighting for the nation’s border security. They need someone who will tell the truth publicly and stand up to the socialist Democrats like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rep. Rashida Tlaib. They have continued to claim that ICE is a “rogue agency” trying to inflict harm on communities, behave abusively, and mismanage funds.

Republicans have tried to tell Democrats there has been a big problem since January but it has only been used as a political tool to obtain votes and watch a crisis emerge. The communities of the border states know exactly who is helping them – and it’s not the Biden Administration. Even Secretary Mayorkas can admit the problem.
