The August job reports recently came out and it’s clear that Joe Biden’s economy is a complete disaster. While the forecast was around 740,000 jobs in August, the US economy struggled to add 235,000. Even MSNBC said it was a lot worse than they thought.
According to the job report, the White House wanted to see a larger number but maintained that market recovery from the pandemic was “strong and durable.” President Biden said that they’ve seen “continued growth month after month” and that they’ve added jobs in every single one of the first seven job reports. He said “consistent progress” is what makes our economy stronger, not boom or bust.
Biden also blamed COVID-19 cases and the Delta Variant for the disappointing figures in the jobs report. He talked about how people were unable to work during the pandemic and that employers were forced to pull back on hiring. There was also an abrupt drop in hiring, with people citing fears about the “highly contagious” delta variant. 5.6 million people reported in August that they were unable to work because of the pandemic. Biden said that the coronavirus was hurting the pandemic, as well as Americans who refused to get vaccinated.
“We need to make more progress in fighting the delta variant of COVID-19. This is a continuing pandemic of the unvaccinated,” President Biden said.
The labor department reports that the numbers have shrunk tremendously, with 1.1 million jobs in July and 962,000 in June. Refinitiv economists had estimated around 728,000 jobs for the month of August.
Biden has continued to defend his job reports’ failure by promoting new taxes as a solution. Biden talked about offering free elderly care, free childcare, free preschool, and free college, noting that the number of billionaires in America can “pay just a little bit more.” While Biden has continued to emphasize that the middle and lower working class would not be affected by tax rises, reports have found that when corporations and the wealthy are forced to pay more in taxes it just makes its way down the supply chain. Biden, however, has continued to claim that it would level the playing field for the vast majority of Americans “struggling just to hang on.”
Biden even tried to mock the stock market setting records and added a side comment, “imagine if the other guy was here.” This is in reference to former President Donald Trump, who repeatedly praised stock market success in his speeches. Biden adds that it doesn’t mean it’s the best for the economy. If the other guy was here, there would be cheaper gas prices, a safe Afghanistan withdrawal, and a much more successful jobs report.
Biden and the rest of the Democrat Party have continued to blame the surge of the Delta variant for many failing reports in the country, even though they are implementing open-border policies for thousands of COVID-19 carriers.
Employment is still down by 5.2 million, or 3.5% from its pre-pandemic level in February 2020. The hospitality industry has averaged around 350,000 jobs over the last six months but has not grown at all. Bars and restaurants lost around 42,000 jobs. Retail lost 29,000 jobs. Mining has added 6,000, IT added 17,000, and financial services grew by 16,000. Construction, wholesale trade, and healthcare have little or no improvement in their industries.
If Biden can’t blame the jobs report on the Delta Variant, it’ll be because of systemic racism, climate change, or former president Donald Trump. He won’t take responsibility for suffocating the economy and barely keeping basic economic policies in place to create jobs. What’s next?
