Dave Chappelle Tells Sold-Out Crowd That He Loves Being Canceled

Published on

Comedian Dave Chappelle recently declared to a packed-out crowd in San Francisco, California that he loves being canceled. He went on to add that he is going through something –and it might just be history.”
Chappelle shared that it’s such a relief to be canceled, adding how it’s like Capone getting arrested for tax evasion. Chappelle shared this with his 19,000-strong audience as he kicked off his 10-city comedy tour.

Near the end of the show, Chappelle shared how for the last three or four weeks the news has been saying that his contract has been canceled. He said that it doesn’t matter what anyone says, adding the point is that we are all together. He adds that it might be history and could be history.

Transgender activists have taken offense to the jokes in his Netflix special The Closer. Netflix’s headquarters was surrounded by angry transgender activists last month who took offense at Chappelle’s jokes.

Chappelle states how he was confused by the demands of the woke mob, but he would still meet with transgender people, on the condition that they watch his Netflix special from beginning to end. He states how he would not compromise on any demands.

Since the premiere of his special, Chappelle has not been alone in being attacked. Comedian Hannah Gadsby also publicly criticized Chappelle by declaring “Fu** You and Your Amoral Algorithm Cult.” Chappelle responded to the attacks by saying that the activists who wish to meet him to discuss his comedy special must also admit that the comedian Gadsby isn’t funny. Chappelle’s latest documentary, Untitled, talks about the claims that his most recent documentary had been rejected by film festivals after the Netflix controversy.

The documentary highlights Chappelle’s good efforts in hosting a series of outdoor comedy shows near his Ohio residence last summer during the COVID-19 shutdown. Rolling Stone describes the documentary as a scrapbook of an unusual summer spent among very wealthy and funny friends.
