Sen. Rand Paul recently questioned Dr. Anthony Fauci over his refusal to admit that the National Institutes of Health was funding gain-of-function research. He bluntly told the chief White House medical advisor that the NIH had changed the website’s definition “to cover his ass.”
Paul stated that he didn’t expect Fauci to admit that he had approved Wuhan gain-of-function research, adding that Fauci’s repeated denials had “worn thin.” He said that a majority of Americans frankly didn’t believe Fauci.
Paul went on to say that even the NIH admits that EcoHealth performed experiments in the Wuhan Lab to create viruses that were not found in nature. Paul states that the facts were clear that the NIH funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan.”
Paul said that Fauci can deny it all he likes, but that the Chinese authors of this paper admit that viruses not naturally found in nature were created and gained.” He states how Fauci’s persistent denies was not only a stain upon his reputation but a clear threat to the rest of the world. Paul states that it is important because such research could lead to a worse pandemic in the future, adding how it could be one with a higher mortality rate than the Chinese coronavirus.
Paul states how they are testing viruses with mortalities between 15-50%, adding how their civilization may be at risk due to one of these viruses. He states how it is extremely risky and that it could lead to the end of civilization. He said that Fauci was unwilling to accept responsibility for the pandemic and that he refuses to take action to stop the gain of function research.
Paul claimed that Fauci has continued to mislead the American public and support Wuhan’s research despite knowing the risks. He points out how Fauci still trusts Chinese scientists and that the pandemic has taught him nothing. He asked Fauci if he would take responsibility for funding research on gain-of-function in Wuhan?
Fauci denied the allegations and called gain-of-function a nebulous term.
He said they have expended, not us, but outside bodies, considerable effort to give a more specific definition of the type of research that could lead to a pandemic. Paul interrupted Fauci to say that Fauci was aware of this.
Paul was intrigued to find out that EcoHealth Alliance experimented on a virus and created one that doesn’t exist in the natural world and makes mice even sicker.
Fauci said that gain-of-function research was not possible and that he was not changing the definition to include his “ass.”
Paul pointed out how the agency has changed the definition of the website to make it more inclusive and modified it to remove the risky research. He went on to say that the research was dangerous, adding how it has been rebuked by the NIH, and the agency has rebuked him. He went on to claim that Fauci was still refusing to acknowledge that they gained function, even though they got sicker.
Paul laughed when Fauci said that the definition is operable. Fauci claimed that the current definition was revised to a three-year period by outside entities and that they commissioned an external risk/benefit analysis.
Paul adds that until he takes responsibility, then he won’t be able to stop another lab leak of a dangerous experiment. He tells Fauci that due to his lack of judgment, he thinks he should resign. He made the declaration directly to Fauci.
