CNN and MSNBC have continued to treat Jussie Sloboltt with child gloves, despite his guilty verdict stemming out from the hate crime hoax that he orchestrated in 2019. Smollett’s story unraveled and he became a prominent symbol for how liberal media outlets often operate with their preferred narrative before the facts are known. Liberals propagated the false story that Smollett was attacked at 2 AM by MAGA-wearing Trump supporters during Chicago’s polar vortex. Smollett’s story was believed by everyone, from left-leaning cable news pundits to Dem politicians.
Smollett was found guilty of the first five charges and acquitted of the sixth charge of lying to a detective, which he had allegedly committed weeks later. CNN and MSNBC downplayed or blamed conservatives despite the guilty verdict.
CNN’s website featured a softened headline: “Jussie, guilty of some charges.” Although many mocked the inclusion, the liberal network continued to cover the verdict with bizarre reporting.
Brian Stelter, CNN’s pundit for media, “Reliable Sources” was oddly criticized by conservative media for not pointing out how many liberal news agencies fell for Smollett’s hoax. CNN’s media newsletter mocked the media outlets that held the liberal media responsible, rather than scolding journalists and analysts who bought Smollett’s story.
MSNBC completely ignored Smollett’s conviction. Joy Reid, Chris Hayes, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, “All In”, “ReidOut” host Joy Reid and “The Last Word,” host Lawrence O’Donnell, as well as Brian Williams, MSNBC’s anchor for “11th Hour”, were all present at MSNBC. Don Lemon, CNN’s extreme-left host, managed to cover the story live on-air but his MSNBC colleagues didn’t bother.
According to Grabien transcripts, MSNBC’s top-rated programs have not covered the hoax since Smollett first claimed it. MSNBC made it possible for Trump supporters to declare Smollett’s conviction on its website.
Zach Stafford, MSNBC’s opinion columnist, stated in the first paragraph that it didn’t matter if Smollett is innocent or wrongly punished. However, legitimate victims of hate crimes will feel the consequences.
The MSNBC columnist stated that the only winners after the dust settled are those on the right who have declared themselves America’s true victims of hateful and discriminatory acts — people who have made the Smollett case their main example of how the left operates, and how it wrongly makes Donald Trump supporters villains.
