CNN recently suggested 11 potential candidates replace President Joe Biden on the Dems’ primary ticket in 2024. The White House sought to limit coverage of Biden’s poor economic record by the establishment news network. The network admitted that Biden’s age and ongoing political struggles were a factor in 2024 considerations.
Biden’s approval ratings are in the low 30s due to 40-year-high inflation, the south border crisis and the fatal Afghan withdrawal, which left hundreds of Americans without homes. Two weeks after the 2024 election, he will be 82 years old.
CNN suggested that the following 11 candidates could be interested in Biden’s job if he does not run:
Kamala Harris, Vice President
Pete Buttigieg, Transportation Secretary
Sen. Elizabeth Warren
Sen. Amy Klobuchar
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper
Mitch Landrieu, former Mayor of New Orleans
Gina Raimondo, Secretary of Commerce
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer
Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker
Stacey Abrams, a former member of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, was asked Monday about rumors concerning Biden’s political fate and whether Dems will replace Biden in 2024.
Psaki stated that the White House’s message focuses on the actions of the American people and that the President is fully committed to running for reelection.
The New York Times stated that concerns within the Dem Party has stoked speculation regarding a possible contested primary. They said that, on top of concerns over age and unpopularity, brings an overwhelming fear among Dems about a Trump comeback. They said that the party should run a strong candidate in order to stop it.
A recent poll found that a majority of Dems think Biden is not the best choice to keep the White House in 2024.
Only 36% of Dems said Biden was their choice, and 44% thought a new nominee would improve their chances of keeping the presidency.
