USA Today Columnist Mocks Republican Who Died After Battling Coronavirus

USA Today columnist Michael J. Stern mocked the death of Washington State Senator Doug Ericksen, R (Republican), on Saturday. He was a Trump supporter who opposed vaccine mandates. Ericksen tested positive for coronavirus in November. According to the Seattle Times’, Ericksen’s exact cause of death and his vaccination status are still unknown. He died a little over a month after being tested positive for coronavirus in El Salvador.

Ericksen’s spouse, Tasha, and the two daughters of Ericksen said that they were “heartbroken” to announce his father’s passing. Please keep our family in prayer and thank you for your continued respect of our privacy during this very difficult time. Stern wasn’t the only one to make fun of his misapprehensions:

Ericksen’s vaccination status is unknown at the moment. However, it hasn’t been reported that Ericksen was anti-vaxxer or that he had a problem with coronavirus vaccines. Numerous media outlets reported Ericksen’s opposition to Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D) has coronavirus measures such as vaccine mandates and mask mandates and social distancing and lockdowns. However, no reports have indicated that Ericksen opposed vaccines.

Ericksen tested positive for coronavirus and sent a message asking his Republican colleagues to help him obtain monoclonal antibody treatment – the best way to treat the virus in its early stages.

He wrote that he had just returned from El Salvador when he tested positive for COVID. “I can’t get home and it’s so bad that it’s making it difficult for me to return to my family. I believe it would be beneficial to have an iv of monoclonal antibody (Regeneron) to help me. Although I do have access to a doctor who can give the IV, the product is not available in my area.

Ericksen said, “Do you have any suggestions on how I could get monoclonal antibody sent to me here?” “Ideally, I would love to get it on a plane tonight so it could be here tomorrow.”

According to the Seattle Times Ericksen “eventually organized a medevac plane to a Florida hospital,” but it is not clear where he was when he died.

Doug Ericksen was a strong supporter of former President Trump’s candidacy and was one of the first backers of his 2016 campaign. Washington State Lieutenant Governor On Saturday, Denny Heck posted a sad tribute to his passing on Twitter. He said, “I am deeply saddened to learn that Senator Doug Ericksen died on Friday.” My heart breaks for Addi, Elsa, and Tasha. They should find comfort and kindness during this difficult time. The Senate is thinking of them.
