Senator Chuck Schumer recently announced that President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Justice Stephen Breyer, will be subject to a Senate hearing.
Schumer stated that President Biden’s nominee would receive a prompt hearing at the Senate Judiciary Committee and would be reviewed and confirmed by all the United States Senate members with the greatest speed.
Biden had promised during the 2020 presidential campaign that he would appoint an African-American woman to the Court.
He said, “I look forward to making sure that there’s at least one black woman on the Supreme Court to ensure we get all representation.”
Biden’s nominee for president will need to appease Senator Joe Manchin (D–WV) as well as Sen. Kyrsten Silena (D–AZ), who have been open to supporting Biden’s radical agenda through 2021.
Biden will choose a nominee to present to Senator Dick Durbin (D.IL) in the next weeks. Biden’s nominee will be confirmed by Democrats “in approximately a month.”
Breyer’s announcement that he will be stepping down from the Court comes at a time when the GOP are gaining momentum to reclaim both the House and Senate chambers.
