The White House recently expressed more concern about Ukraine’s future as Russian troops were deployed at the border. Jen Psaki, White House Press Secretary, raised alarm during the daily briefing.
Psaki stated that “We believe we are now at a point where Russia could at anytime launch an attack against Ukraine.” “I would argue that this is starker than what we have been.”
Despite President Biden’s repeated criticisms of Russian President Vladimir Putin over Ukraine, tensions continue to mount due to Russia’s decision not to send troops to the region.
Psaki stated that the Biden administration would continue to explore ways to dissuade Putin from acting in Ukraine. She stated that Putin created the crisis by deploying 100,000 troops along Ukraine’s borders.
According to the New York Times Tuesday, Russia began evacuating family members at its diplomatic offices in Ukraine. This indicates that they intend to increase their activity in Russia. She stated, “We believe that this is an extremely hazardous situation.”
Psaki stated that Tony Blinken, Secretary of State to Russia, would meet in Switzerland with him this week to warn Putin of the “severe consequences” if they invade Ukraine. She said, “No option is off-the-table.”
