Jen Psaki (White House Press Secretary) blamed America’s rise in crime on “underfunding” certain police forces.
Psaki was interviewed by Fox News’ Peter Doocy regarding the Biden administration’s beliefs about the crime surge that shocked Americans at Monday’s White House Press Briefing.
Psaki mentioned “gun violence” as well as “huge reasons for crime’s increase” as well as “underfunding of police departments” and the need to have additional resources.
Psaki said that “And it is absolutely true that he will not be satisfied or complacent whilst officers are being shot down, or when Americans have to worry about whether they can safely access the subway or bus,” and he referred again to Biden’s push for funding for the police during his political career. ”
Doocy pointed out that the nation’s murder rate was on track to hit its highest level in 25 years. Doocy asked why Americans don’t hear and see more from Biden about this topic. Psaki responded that Biden had “spoken against crime.” ”
Psaki responded, pointing to several areas where the president addressed police resources.
Many American police departments saw their funding cut due to the far-left movement “defund police”, which gained momentum following the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
The movement was supported by many prominent Democrats, including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York and Rashida Tlaib from Michigan. During the protests, they promoted the idea via social networking.
Many officers were killed in the aftermath of a violent weekend. Jason Rivera (22 years old) was shot in the back during a domestic dispute.
An officer was shot and wounded in Northwest D.C. on Sunday night. The Black Lives Matter chapter in Washington, D.C. expressed outrage at the notion that officers killed in the line of duty were automatic “heroes”.
Black Lives Matter D.C. used this opportunity to promote their #StopMPD campaign and warn against copaganda.
