Kristi Noem Signs Bill To Stop Critical Race Theory Instruction In Colleges

Governor of South Dakota Kristi Noem (R), signed a bill that prohibits the teaching Critical Race Theory (CRT), in South Dakota’s colleges. CRT is a Marxist theory that claims the United States has white privilege and systemic racism as its foundation. It also oppresses “people who are not of color.”

Noem stated that no teacher or student should be required to support Critical Race Theory to be able to study, graduate, or teach in our public universities. “College should be a place where freedom to think and express is encouraged, not suppressed by political agendas.”

“This session, we also targeted investments in job-training for key career fields such as nursing and skilled manufacturing. Noem stated that she wants her grandkids and children to receive the best training so they can fill the available jobs in South Dakota.

House Bill 1012 provides, in part:

A student may not be forced to affirm, adhere, or adopt any of these tenets by an institution of higher education that is under the direct control of the Board of Regents, the Board of Technical Education, or any state-accredited school districts.

Individuals should not be discriminated against or treated differently because of their race color, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, or skin color. The race, color, religion, sexuality, and national origin of an individual will determine their moral character. A person is considered to be inherently racist, sexist or oppressive because of their race, colour, religion, sex or national origin.

Individuals are held responsible for past actions by others of the same race color, religion or sex. Individuals should not feel guilt, shame, or other forms of psychological distress based on their race, color or religion.

Meritocracy and traits like a strong work ethic or traits are racist or sexist. They were created by members a certain race or sexual to oppress another race. The Argus Leader has an article about the legislation Noem signed:

Monday’s signing of 11 additional education bills by Noem was also a positive sign. Noem has signed 192 bills into law, and vetoed only one in this legislative session. The Senate Education Committee killed House Bill 1337, a similar bill that applied to K-12 schools.
