White House Cleans Up Biden’s Gaffe

The White House stated Tuesday that President Biden didn’t accidentally disclose classified information in an attempt to correct a gaffe he made last week while speaking with U.S. troops. Biden spoke to U.S. troops stationed in Poland Friday and suggested that they might soon be in Ukraine – something U.S. officials repeatedly denied.

Biden stated, “You’re going see when you get there – some have been there. You’re going see women, young men standing in the middle in front of a damn tanks, saying, ‘I’m not going.'”

Later, a spokesperson for the White House clarified that “The president has made it clear that we aren’t sending U.S. forces to Ukraine and there is not any change in this position.”

Biden, in an attempt to make amends for his error, told reporters Monday that he was talking about “helping train the Ukrainian troops that have been in Poland,” a measure that U.S. officials previously rejected.

Biden replied, “I was referring about being with, and speaking with, the Ukrainian troops who are in Poland.”

Fox News’ Jacqui Heinrich questioned Kate Bedingfield, White House Director for Communications, Tuesday’s press conference about whether Biden accidentally revealed that the U.S. was training Ukrainian forces in Poland.

Bedingfield replied, “No.” “The Ukrainian troops he had met in Poland regularly interact with the Ukrainians,” Bedingfield replied. This is something we know. This is not a way to reveal compromised information. Having said that, I don’t have anything to add beyond yesterday’s statements by the president.

Later, another reporter asked: “Are they being trained in Poland?”

Bedingfield replied, “Well, as you said, there is regular interaction among Ukrainian soldiers in Poland with the US troops that President saw on his trip.” “There is no additional detail I can provide except that there is frequent interaction. We were near the border as you can see, and there was regular interaction between the Ukrainian troops he saw and his own troops.
