After Trump refused to hand over his business records, a New York judge declared Donald Trump’s contempt of court. Judge Arthur Engoron ruled the former president in civil contempt and would fine him $10,000 per day until he obeyed.
New York Attorney General Letitia Jam was pleased with the decision of the judge. Her office continues to investigate Trump’s business activities.
James posted on social media that Donald Trump must pay $10,000 per Day for each day he refuses to comply with the court’s order to hand over documents to his office. “Today justice prevailed.”
Although the former president didn’t immediately respond to the court developments, his attorney Alina Habba stated that they intend to appeal the decision.
Trump’s lawyer argued that there are no additional documents to be provided to the attorney general. He also noted that Trump does not use a computer at work, text or email.
“There is nothing more he can do. It was already provided. According to CBS News, Habba asked: “So your honor, how are you treating President Trump in contempt?”
James continues the two-year investigation into Trump’s business. The former president described it as a continuation to a witch hunt by his political enemies.
