Texas Governor Greg Abbott pledges to continue truck inspections at Texas-Mexico border, which have clogged traffic for the past few years until President Biden or Mexican officials take action to address the ongoing migration crisis.
Abbott gave Wednesday’s speech as he signed a memorandum of understanding with Nuevo Leon governor. In exchange for enhanced bordersecurity enforcement measures at entry points and along Rio Grande in Nuevo Leon, inspections would be stopped at Laredo bridge.
According to him, this agreement will result in the immediate return of normal for the bridge connecting Nuevo Leon and Texas. This will continue until Nuevo Leon signs this historic agreement.
As part of his efforts to fight the migrant crisis, the Republican governor ordered that trucks coming from Mexico be subject to more inspections. Busing migrants from Mexico to Washington D.C. was one of these measures. Border governors warned about the dangers of the massive flow of migrants and drugs such as fentanyl entering the United States.
The inspections have been holding traffic back for several days. Customs and Border Protections (CBP) stated Tuesday that wait times exceeded five hours and that commercial traffic dropped to 60 span>
CBP stated that the longer wait times than normal and subsequent supply chain disruptions were not due to CBP screening activities. These are the result of additional inspections by the Texas Department of Public Safety on Governor’s orders.
The White House attacked Abbott, stating that the actions were “impacting people’s jobs, the livelihoods hardworking American families.” ”
The majority of voters oppose Biden’s plan for Title 42 to be lifted, so there is a border boost
Jen Psaki, the Press Secretary, stated that Governor Abbott’s unneeded and redundant inspections of trucks transiting ports of entry between Texas and Mexico were causing significant disruptions in the food supply chain, delaying manufacture and impacting jobs, and raising prices for Texas families as well as across the country. ”
Abbott replied by saying that Texas was “overrun with illegal immigrants” who had crossed from Mexico with the aid of cartels.
“Until such agreements with these states are reached, the Texas Department of Public Safety continues inspection of all vehicles entering the United States through Mexico, except Nuevo Leon. ”
The White House had the ball at that point. He said that President Biden had to do his job and secure the border.
He stated that you need to call President Biden to ask him to maintain the Title 42 expulsion policies for many years if you want to be free from the jammed border. This was in reference to the soon-to-expired public health order. Also, you must demand that President Biden enforce the existing immigration laws passed in the US Congress. ”
He encouraged people concerned about traffic congestion to contact Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the Mexican President, to urge him to cooperate with Texas in stopping cartel activity flowing from Mexico to Texas.
He stated, “Clogged bridges can’t be stopped only by the type of cooperation we are demonstrating between Texas & Nuevo Leon.”
