The View Does Damage Control For Viral SCOTUS Hearing Moment

Joy Behar, a liberal co-host on ABC’s “The View,” claimed Tuesday that Sen. Marsha Brown Jackson, R-Tenn. asked Ketanji brown Jackson, Supreme Court nominee, to define “a lady” was a “gotcha question.”

Behar mentioned Blackburn’s question at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings last week, in which Jackson said she couldn’t answer.

Stephanie Grisham, guest co-host, began the discussion by describing a Midwestern couple who opposed Jackson’s confirmation due to her inability answer the question about what a woman is.

Jackson told Blackburn, “I’m no biologist,” after being asked that question.

Grisham claimed that Republicans asked this question to “overshadow her” her qualifications for the next Supreme Court justice. However, she falsely claimed that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) was the one who asked Jackson the question, and not Blackburn.

Behar asked Jackson why Jackson’s response would upset them, while Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of the show, asked the question.

Sunny Hostin, co-host of Sunny Hostin’s show, stated that most people believe it to be the biological gender you were born with and the sex organs you were born with.

Behar said that it was a “gotcha question about transgenders”, and Hostin replied, “Absolutely.”

Grisham claimed that Jackson asked Graham the question, but Blackburn did not. She argued that it was asked intentionally to “rile up the base.”

Goldberg suggested that the question could be compared to marriage, and that it couldn’t also be defined.

It’s like marriage. Who can tell me about marriage? Who is the one who can tell me what marriage is? She asked.

“That’s why the court exists. It’s why you have it. It cannot be just, “Oh, they’re going think exactly like me think,” Goldberg said.

“Putting someone else in is not going to guarantee that you get the answer that you desire for what it is about a woman.” What is freedom? She ended the segment by asking.

After the Senate Judiciary Committee had been deadlocked at 11-11 between parties, the Senate voted Monday to confirm Jackson’s nomination.

Jackson is expected confirm his appointment following announcements made by three Republican senators. They will be joining what is expected be all Democrats voting for.
