George Gascon, Los Angeles County district attorney has decided not to file felony charges against Isaiah Lee. Lee was the one that attacked comedian Dave Chappelle at Hollywood Bowl on May 3, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The matter was referred by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to be considered as misdemeanors instead of felony charges.
“After reviewing all evidence, prosecutors concluded criminal conduct did occur but the evidence presented didn’t constitute felony behavior,” the DA’s Office said in a statement. ”
Lee appeared on the stage during Chappelle’s Tuesday, May 3, 2013 set. He was taking on the role of a comedian. Lee remains under $30,000 bail.
Gascón‘s decision against filing felony charges is curious. Although not used during the attack, Lee was armed with an imitation pistol containing a real knife positionable for use from the fake gun’s barrel by pulling the trigger. How possessing such a weapon does not amplify the attack’s seriousness above a legal tsk-tsk is, as the King of Siam famously said, a puzzlement.
Gascón, who is to defend the public against criminals what Gaston was to literary appreciation, is at least consistent with this latest pathological inability to prosecute. We are talking about the man a convicted gang murderer called a “hero.” Gascón agreed to a plea deal with a man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old.
Gascon was subject to “no trust” measures in several Los Angeles County municipalities. We have documented many other instances of Gascon’s dumb pandering to mole-coddling criminals.
Gascon frequently refers to his desire to have a less oppressive judicial structure in his attempts at justifying his actions.
The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has yet to announce what, if any, charges will be filed against Lee. In the meanwhile, one wonders if Gascón is trying to figure out how he can charge Donald Trump for the crime.
