The department posted on Facebook that they were grateful for the community’s support and look forward to building on the successes we have built with outstanding officers like Officer Banayat.
Cameron Banayat is a school resource officer and was honored in 2021 for his help to a teenager with a mental illness.
According to the Richmond Standard, the officer and others responded to a call from a teenager who had locked himself in a room with his knife.
The newspaper reported that the teenager agreed to give up the gun after about 20 minutes of negotiations.
Later, the teen was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
