California Wildfire Sets Homes Ablaze, Forces Evacuations

A fire in northern California caused several injuries and forced thousands to flee. Cal Fire reported Saturday night that the fire had consumed over 3,921 acres and was only 20% contained.

Investigators continue to investigate the cause of Friday’s fire at Roseburg Forest Products.

Rebecca Taylor was the communications director for the company. She stated that it wasn’t clear if the fire started on or near company property.

The Yreka Community Center established a center for evacuation.

Cal Fire Siskiyou Unit reported Saturday that large numbers of people arrived at the scene in the late evening. They also participated in structure defense and established control points.

The wildfire erupted onto roads at 35 miles per hour and destroyed many houses.

More than 27,000 Golden State customers lost power on Friday. Weed was impacted by the wildfire.

California’s electricity grid was already suffering from heat waves. Flex Alerts had been issued by the grid operator in the past few days.

Allison Hendrickson spokeswoman at Dignity Health North State hospitals and stated that two individuals were admitted to Mercy Medical Center Mount Shasta.

One person was stable, and the other was taken by the UC Davis Medical Center into the burn unit.

Near Gazelle, there was a second fire, the Mountain Fire. It started north of the Mill Fire.

It had blazed more than 1,400 acres on Saturday morning and was now at 0%.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared Siskyou County a state of emergency and reported that a federal grant had been received.
