Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary, was unable to answer questions about the Inflation Reduction Act’s immediate impact on Americans.
Jean-Pierre was pressed by reporters during a White House press conference. He pointed out that most Americans won’t be affected by the IRA measures until the later part of the decade. Jean-Pierre referred to a few programs that subsidize certain purchases, but did not provide any examples of how the bill would reduce inflation.
The reporter continued pressing, noting that many of these policies will not reach Americans until 2024/2026.
According to the Consumer Price Index, the exchange occurred on the same day that the U.S. had announced an increase in inflation to 8.3%. Jean-Pierre didn’t mention that inflation continues to be a problem at the grocery store.
