Sen. Ed Markey Renews Feud With Elon Musk In Ridiculed Tweet

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) renewed his ongoing feud with Twitter CEO Elon Muss for refusing to consider the senator’s demands seriously on Saturday.

Markey tweeted that Musk refused to answer his Nov. 11 formal letter requesting answers about Musk’s plans for combating disinformation on Twitter. According to the Democrat, Saturday was one day after the original deadline. Musk has not yet responded beyond a few tweets.

He tweeted that @elonmusk could reply to my tweets, but failed to respond by yesterday’s deadline. Congress must end the failed Big Tech self-regulation era and pass laws that prioritize user safety over the billionaires’ whims.

Markey had warned Musk on Nov. 16 about the “prices” Musk would pay if certain Twitter policies weren’t fixed.

Markey initially attacked Musk after working alongside a Washington Post reporter, who was able impersonate Senator Musk using Twitter verification rules. Musk was warned by Markey, “Fix your businesses.” Or Congress will.

Markey was also attacked by other social media users for continuing to threaten Musk.

Jim Hanson, author, joked that “He’s just too into you.”

Stacey Lennox, PJ Media columnist, tweeted: “He opposes voter identification but is super concerned regarding a blue check Twitter. Insane.”

J.D., Reason contributor editor Tucciille wrote that “We should all be able to ignore pissy government officials such as @SenMarkey.”

“Dear @SenMarkey, you were perfectly fine with Big Tech’s Self-regulation when it effectively meant censoring peoples and ideas you disagree with (i.e. Republicans and conservatives). You don’t have the ability to censor via Twitter proxies, so you want Congress to do your dirty job? Army veteran Barry Jacobsen asked.

America must end the era busybody senators that want to control everyone. Twitter and @elonmusk can make any decisions they want, and you are free to use other services. Justin Amash, a former Libertarian Congressman, said that we don’t need to create new laws and regulations for every bad day.

Musk has not yet responded to Markey’s latest tweet as of publication. Musk hasn’t responded to any tweets or comments from Markey so far. He joked that Markey’s account was “parody.”
