Specter of Trump Criminal Charges Reemerges as Presidential Run Looms

Trump’s criminal charges are likely to return as the midterm elections draw near. Trump appears to be on the verge of a new presidential bid.

The Department of Justice is currently investigating the former president in relation to Jan. 6, 2021. Separately, Trump’s Florida resort house of Mar-a-Lago was raided by the FBI in an unprecedented raid. The FBI did this in August to prevent any suspicion of interference in the election.

According to reports, the former President is looking into a rematch against President Joe Biden. The former president might announce it this month. However, it is not clear how criminal indictments would affect race.

Attorney General Merrick Garland declared in July that no one is above the law in the country. Anyone who attempted to overthrow democratic elections can be investigated, regardless of criminal responsibility.

Garland was then asked his opinion on whether indicting a former president and possible presidential candidate could lead to the country’s collapse.

Garland told NBC News that he plans to hold criminally responsible persons accountable for the Jan. 6 events and anyone who attempted to interfere with the lawful transfer of power between one administration and another. ”

Trump Attorney General William Barr published a February 2020 memo in which he stated that the DOJ could not open investigations into presidential candidates and presidential campaigns without the prior written approval of the attorney general. Garland’s May memo stated that DOJ employees must follow Barr’s directive.

Garland’s memo stated in part that prosecutors cannot choose the timing of public comment, investigation steps or criminal charges, or other actions in order to effect any election. Barr’s memo stated that the DOJ must take special care in conducting sensitive investigations and prosecuting people or groups connected to candidates, campaigns, and other politically sensitive individuals and organizations, particularly during an election year.

The ex-general is shaming Trump’s former attorney General. He criticized Trump’s Capitol Riot and his alleged secret documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Barr stated that the DOJ was investigating Trump’s Jan. 6, 2017 events but that he doesn’t believe that the charges are merited.

The former attorney general repeatedly stated that there wasn’t enough fraud in 2020 to affect the outcome of the election. Garland called the Capitol Riot investigation the “most extensive and important investigation” the DOJ has ever done. Trump denied any wrongdoing.

In an interview with CBS News, Barr said that “I still do not see that as sufficient evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt” that President Trump committed a crime. ”

Trump’s attorney general said that Garland was trying to signal to him that he was really looking at the matter. “We will pursue any crime if we find it. ”

According to the DOJ, more than 880 people have been arrested in connection to the Capitol Riot. Over 270 people were arrested in connection with the Capitol Riot.

Jan. Barr’s June testimony claimed that Trump had made 2020 fraud claims. Trump and his associates claimed that Trump had made fraud claims in 2020.

Trump lost to Biden in the Electoral College (306-232).

Barr’s remarks on Barr’s Truth Social website received a retort from Trump, who called Barr “weak” as well as “frightened” and called 2020 a “RIGGED AND STOLEN election.” ”

Garland spoke briefly on Aug. 11, three days following the Mar-a-Lago raid. He said that he signed off on the search.

“Upholding the Rule of Law” means applying the law equally without fear or favor. Garland stated, that the Justice Department did exactly this under my supervision.

Barr stated that the DOJ was “very close to” obtaining evidence in September to indict Trump for the Mar-a-Lago Raid. He said, however, that he did not want his former boss to face charges by the department.

“There are two things. Will the government have the technical case?” Are they able to use evidence to indict someone? Barr said during the Fox News interview, “That’s their first, and they seem close to it, honestly.”

The cover sheet for a warrant application was not sealed in August. It contained more information about the DOJ’s investigation.

It’s not known if Trump is being held responsible by the DOJ for violating these or any other statutes.

Barr said, “I believe there is another question at the end. Do you indict an ex-president?” Barr replied, “What will it do for the country?” Barr said, “What kind of precedent could this create?” This was serious.

Fox News Barr said that there was “very strong evidence” that the government had what it needed in order to decide whether charges should be brought. These were government documents.
