Students Mistook an East German Uniform For a Nazi Costume, and the Principal Got Fired for Explaining the Truth

We are living in an Idiocracy World.

Jones College Prep students protested the firing of Joseph Powers, Chicago Public Schools Principal. Powers’ response to a student who brought to school a Halloween costume that they mistakenly believed was a Nazi uniform. It was actually an East German border guard uniform. Powers tried unsuccessfully to explain to the kids that it was worn by the border guard since the 1980s.

Powers sent an email to parents and students explaining that he tried his best to explain the context and time period to the students who spoke with him. It appears that the student who wore the uniform may have stated that it was the 1940s. Powers wrote in an email to parents and students that he tried to explain the context of the uniform and the time period to them.

The children were close friends. But, as evil as East German Communists were.

The question here is not whether the child should wear the uniform of an oppressive regime which shot fleeing victims. Jones College Prep seems to have confirmed this.

Florence Tang (17) a student said she was done with it all and was tired of complacency of Jones.

Are lies evidence of complacency or ignorance? Students mistook an East German uniform for a Nazi uniform.

This is all about power. Tang and her “empowered” students are marching on the school administration.

She said that many students were happy to see Powers go and hoped that he would be replaced with a principal who will listen and take steps toward change.

Gabriel Willis (18), expressed disappointment at the school’s inability immediately to address the issue. Instead of listening to his concerns, he sought to understand the outfit and contextualize them.

Willis stated, “The student in the soldier costume should not be allowed to walk on the stage.”

Amazing. The principal had to follow their instructions.
