The silence of one of the most distinctive voices in rock music history has ended. Christine McVie (vocalist and keyboardist for Fleetwood Mac) has died at the age of just 79.
According to the BBC, she died peacefully in the hospital surrounded by her family.
“We ask for your privacy during this very difficult time,” her family stated in a statement. “We would like everyone to keep Christine in their thoughts and to remember the life and music of an amazing human being and respected musician who was loved by all.”
Fleetwood Mac issued a statement via its official Twitter page.

Christine Perfect was born McVie. She joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971, after marrying John McVie. The turbulent McVie marriage was a key ingredient in the band’s Grammy-winning, mega-successful album Rumours.
Christine McVie quit the band in 1998, but she returned in 2014. Her solo career pre-dates and posts her time with Fleetwood Mac. It included “Gota Hold on Me” from 1984. This song reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. She also topped the adult contemporary and rock charts.
In the late 1960s, she recorded with Chicken Shack and in 2017 made an album with Fleetwood Mac bandmate Lindsey Buckingham.
