Florida Threatens To Suspend Licenses Of Businesses Failing To Provide Proof Of E-Verify Compliance

Florida threatens to suspend licenses of businesses that fail to show proof of E-Verify compliance. This ensures that they aren’t hiring illegal immigrants. This is part of a larger effort to protect Florida residents’ jobs and prevent illegal immigration from the south.

The Department of Economic Opportunity wrote letters to several companies, flagging them for “repeat incompatibility” with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

“If you continue to ignore the Department of Economic Opportunity, there will be severe consequences,” the letter warns. The notice also states that it is the last chance to respond before the consequences are initiated.

The DEP will not grant extensions or excuses for non-responses. Within one month of receiving the letter, the companies were required to submit an affidavit declaring that they will comply with the law.

Failure to comply within the timeframe will result in the suspension of all licenses owned by the company. Licenses that are not specific to the location where illegal aliens worked would be suspended by the company.

The letter was sent out to several companies including Prestige Cruise Services LLC and Upperline Health Inc. It also included a request for the American National Red Cross. The deadline for the letter is Monday, January 16.

Jeremy Redfern is the deputy press secretary to Gov. Ron DeSantis told The Center Square that Florida is “crackingdown on the unlawful employment unauthorized aliens within the state of Florida”.

Companies who haven’t confirmed that all employees have passed E-Verify are allowed to work in the United States. Six companies failed to comply with repeated warnings. They will be subject to suspension of their state licenses. These companies have received final notices of noncompliance.

E-Verify is a state-wide initiative that the DeSantis administration has promoted before. The administration posted signs in 2021 on major interstate highways into Florida to inform travelers that E-Verify was used by the state.

“For years, Florida attempted to pass E-Verify legislation, but they failed,” DeSantis said to Breitbart News that DeSantis was able to work together with the Florida legislature to get E-Verify to the finish line.

DeSantis stated that E-Verify puts “upward pressure [on] Floridians’ wages” and protects the public’s safety.

He said that E-Verify was crucial in ensuring a legal workforce and deterring illegal immigration to Florida. This is especially important given the current border crisis.

Rasmussen Reports/NumbersUSA polls found that midterm voters in the United States support national action to stop employers from hiring illegal aliens.
