Karine Jean-Pierre, Joe Biden’s press secretary, is always finding new ways to embarrass her. She’s been a poor spokesperson since the beginning. Biden was applauded by the media for her promotion to Jen Psaki’s replacement, but this was more because Jean-Pierre was black and not for her communication skills. Her first months as White House Press secretary didn’t go very well.
Jen Psaki was even more prepared than her, but she managed to awkwardly avoid questions and refer to her notes constantly. They even had John Kirby, a Pentagon spokesperson, come over to watch her. Her exchanges with Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy didn’t go well either.
She is now unable to pronounce common words. Jean-Pierre, in a recent press conference, mispronounced the word “emeritus” while discussing Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI’s death.
Jean-Pierre is not the only one who mispronounces common words. Jean-Pierre mispronounces common words, such as “bicameral” and “bicarmel.”
Or pronouncing the “Nobel Prize” as “Noble Prize” and “Korean Armistice” as “Korean Armtice.”
One of my personal favorites is calling the Nord Stream pipeline “Nordstrom”.
You could argue that this is trivial, but I clearly remember George W. Bush being mocked by the media for his pronunciation of “nuclear”. They implied that his mispronouncing was an indication of low intelligence, when in fact it is not a common pronunciation. It is often attributed to regional dialects.
It is quite different to hear her mispronouncing words all the time. Her job as White House Press Secretary is based entirely on communication. As the examples above show, her communication skills are poor. Although it’s obvious that she needs to keep notes on hand, her frequent mispronunciations and inability to understand what she is talking about suggest that she doesn’t really know what she’s talking about.
