James Comer, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee (Republican-Ky.) demanded Wednesday that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen transmit bank records from the Biden family company to him. These records were flagged as suspicious by U.S. Banks.
Breitbart News reported that more than 150 transactions involving the Biden family’s business bank accounts were flagged as suspicious by U.S banks in April. Yellen was notified and the flagged reports were forwarded to her to be further reviewed to determine if there had been wrongdoing by the Biden family.
Although the Treasury Department has been releasing reports to Congress for many years, the Biden administration has blocked transparency. This raises questions about whether the Biden network tried to hide its suspicious business dealings, according to the Oversight Committee.
Wire transfers have been the preferred method of money laundering for years. Suspected wire transfers exceeding $10,000 are reported to financial institutions in order to reduce the risk. The Internal Revenue Service must also be notified of wire transactions exceeding $10,000.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control monitors international wire payments such as those to James or Hunter to make sure the money isn’t part of corrupt business schemes.
Comer wrote Yellen Wednesday asking for the relevant flagged documents.
Comer wrote that they will also make recommendations about federal laws and regulations in order to ensure financial institutions have the appropriate internal controls and compliance programs for alerting federal agencies of possible money laundering activity. “Accordingly, this is a renewed request for certain records or information held in Treasury’s custody.
Breitbart News’ Comer said that in November, bank reports indicated that Hunter and James Biden had likely committed financial crimes.
“We believe that suspicious activities reports are bank violations when a bank notifies federal government that we’re pretty sure that our client has committed crime. Hunter Biden and Jim Biden both have at least 150 of these,” Comer stated. “And this is something I have said before. I come from strong banking backgrounds, so I don’t believe there’s anybody in American history that has had as many suspicious activity reports.”
Comer is currently looking into the Biden family business in regard to nine possible violations. These include money laundering and wire fraud. These probes are independent of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ), investigation into Hunter Biden in relation to tax- and gun-related offenses.
Recent polling has shown that a majority want congressional investigations into Biden’s family business to be prioritized.
