Plant-Based Meat Sales Take a Serious Pruning

Beyond Meat’s plant-based “meat” saw record sales and was eventually recycled in 2022. After experiencing record sales in a time when Americans had little to do other than experiment with food from laboratories, this was a great achievement.

Yes, I will use many scare quotes in this article.

The Washington Post reported “In 2020, everybody is at home,” that “sales of plant-based meat brands like Impossible and Beyond Meat have skyrocketed, increasing 45 percent in a year.”

According to the story, soon everyone would be eating hamburgers and chicken fingers made entirely from vegetables. ”

It is possible that it has never been like this. While sales of highly processed plant matter “meat” have increased, they didn’t make a significant difference to most meat-lovers diets.

Sales fell to a halt in 2021 and then started to shrink rapidly by ’22. Beyond Meat, shares were publicly traded and fell by 80%. This was much worse than the overall market. Workers cannot be laid off.

WaPo reported that “plant-based meats are not as successful as they were expected” despite the fact that millions of Americans have cut their beef consumption. ”

Fast Company reported the news in a preachy tone. Fast Company suggested that Americans should eat “meat” with questionable nutritional values just like they eat other foods.

The average consumer doesn’t care much about their diet.

Fast Company’s Brian Kateman said that “in all cases,” “plant-based foods” are generally healthier than traditional meat products.

Oh, really?

Amy Myers, an ex-vegetarian, reported in December, “fake beef was deficient in key beneficial fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, which are found in animal proteins such as vitamin B12. She added that “heme iron was the most bioavailable form of iron and can only be found in real animal proteins. ”

Carrie Forrest is a nutritionist and recommends people avoid real meat if it is important to their health. Fake meat can cause damage and be harmful to their health.

Bloomberg summarizes the promises made by Ethan Brown (founder of Beyond Meat) in 2009.

Bloomberg reported last week fake meat was being promoted as a way to “save the world”. Fake meat became a fashion trend instead.

Logan Hailey, an ex-hardcore vegan, and environmentalist stated that “the Impossible Burger’s 2021 environmental footprint was “MASSIVE” when compared to one ingredient. ”

It is unlikely that fake meat sales are declining due to health benefits (debatable) or if it is good for the environment.

The Washington Post reported last Wednesday that fake meat is the reason consumers aren’t liking it.

Steffen Jahn, a professor of marketing, spoke to the paper. He pointed out that imitations of real beef create a sense of authenticity.

This is a problem.

Jhan claims, “fake meat producers attempt to imitate real meat and claim they are almost real. ”

It appears that fake cattle are grazing in Uncanny Valley.

Order the salad if you want more than just meat.
