The major English Dictionaries’ definitions, or the examples used to illustrate them, are from different times. They have not aged well. The current definition’s implicit ageism and sexism are anachronistic.
This movement to redefine beauty recognizes all who express and celebrate their visions of beauty every single day and validates those who feel excluded by narrow definitions.
The campaign asks Dictionary publishers to examine the examples and eliminate any implicit ageism or sexism.
“Beauty is like water, it becomes formless.” “It’s not fixed, it’s formless,” says the accompanying Orwellian advertisement — a highly on-brand postmodern take that nothing really means anything. Or, to put it another way, words can mean what they say at any moment, regardless of past or future interpretations.
