According to a source familiar, George Santos, a New York Republican Representative in trouble, informed House Republicans Tuesday that he would resign from his positions on the committee.
According to reports, Santos told House Republicans that he would resign from his positions on both the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee and the House Small Business Committee after it was revealed that many aspects of his resume were fabrications.
Santos has been subject to numerous calls for his resignation from both within and outside the Republican Party, despite their slim majority in Congress.
Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic-N.Y., was even critical of Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s decision to allow Santos to serve in committees but refuse to seat Reps. Swalwell and Schiff (D. Calif.) on House Intelligence Committee.
Jeffries stated that while Republicans threatened to deny Intelligence Committee seats to democratically qualified members, George Santos, a serial fraudster, was placed on two standing committees by the House and invited to your conference. “The apparent double standard could undermine the spirit of bipartisan cooperation so urgently needed in Congress.”
Santos’s resignation from his committee assignments won’t stop the calls for his resignation. Republicans don’t want Santos to be associated with them, but Democrats see this as an opportunity for the GOP to reduce its slim majority. However, it doesn’t change the fact that Democrats have voted in, been elected, and reelected crooks and racists in the past.
