Let’s just be brutally honest. While I don’t mean to be critical of Walmart, the fact that even Walmart leaves your city shows that you are in serious trouble. Lori Lightfoot, your mayor, is a Chicagoan, so you’ll know what I mean.
Walmart has more than 5,000 stores across the country so closing stores is not uncommon. WLS-TV, an ABC affiliate in Chicago, reported that Walmart had closed 160 stores in the last two years. However, with 5,000 stores, the company must be flexible. The bottom line is, literally it has to go where the business is and leave where it isn’t.
Although the company did not give any specific reasons for closing the stores to local media, Walmart’s decision is yet another reminder of Greater Chicagoland’s decade-long decline.
Chicago’s population has declined for nine years straight, and the tax base has shrunk. Meanwhile, crime is on the rise. The city is now considering no-cash bail which will make it almost impossible for police to enforce the law against theft. This is not something businesses like, but guess what? As the Washinton Examiner reported, census estimates show that Illinois has lost roughly 300,000 net residents over the aforementioned nine years. 300,000 people don’t just decide to pack up their crap and leave their homes — even for better weather. Three hundred, or maybe even three thousand, but not three hundred thousand.
This is a worrying trend and it is in Windy City. It’s not just one issue that’s troubling, but it has no signs of abating and will continue to do so as long as Lightfoot is mayor.
Chicago is not the Lone Ranger of major U.S. cities with violent crime, homeless encampments and rampant public drug abuse, overdose deaths, and violent rioting. However, 100 percent of these cities have one thing in common: Democrat-run city governments. My Democrat friends, there are no exceptions.
Even more bizarre, left-wingers, in this instance, Democratic politicians, have never been able to escape Einstein’s basic definition of madness: repeating the same thing over and again and expecting different results. Even worse is the fact that Democrats are pushing universal cashless bail and “defunding police” to release repeat offenders, making it possible for Democrat-run municipalities to install revolving doors in jail cells.
What about the long-term effects of Democrats’ draconian COVID lockdowns on the economy?

Chicago, San Francisco, and New York were among the cities that suffered similar mismanagement. They “coasted,” according to the Atlantic. This was due to the fact that workers and firms were being pulled inexorably toward their downtowns.
However, many businesses realized that the hypocritical rule-by COVID-panic of left-wing Democrats convinced them that large downtown offices were not worth it as workers moved to remote or hybrid-remote jobs.
According to a variety of reports, companies are reducing their downtown office space and letting expire leases. Manhattan’s commercial real estate market has fallen by more than 7% over the past year. Yet, half of the available space is still vacant.
The truth is that none of this madness can be explained by Albert Einstein’s brainpower.

One of the vilest secrets of the Democratic Party is this: Democrats are well aware that their crime policies are nothing more than ineffective slaps on your wrist. And they don’t care a lot about it. It is possible to argue that Democrats enjoy the fact that their crazy policies don’t work.
