AI is Expected to Impact 80% of American Jobs in the Next Few Years

OpenAI, which brought you ChatGPT recently teamed up to study the possible consequences of AI implementation in American workplaces. They were not pleased with their findings. It’s not good news if you depend on a job to provide the income you need to feed your family and buy clothes. If you’re a single person or a person who dreams of living off government assistance for the rest of your life, then the news is either good or bad.

Research has shown that AI could speed up the completion of many tasks previously performed by humans. According to The Daily Mail, white-collar positions are most at risk. At least for now. Trust me, I have seen the videos. It won’t take long for you to find a robot “helper”, which eventually will become your replacement robot.

According to the study, AI would threaten certain jobs. Mathematicians, accountants, tax preparers, and auditors, as well as financial analysts and legal secretaries, were the most exposed jobs. It’s not surprising that many of the writers I have known over the years were just this side from broke. Web designers made it on the list, too. This is a good place to learn code. Search marketing professionals and graphic designers, however, are more secure. Financial managers and investment fund managers are not safe. However, if your job is lost to AI, you will not have much money to invest. It is also possible to rest easy for insurance appraisers who are responsible for investigating auto accident damage. Dishwashers and barbers, lawyers, electricians, and astronomers are all safe.

Ironically, climate change policy analysis is one of the most threatened jobs. There is some rough justice. An algorithm could soon replace all of these alarmists. If they haven’t, it’s already.

Don’t panic if your job is on the endangered or threatened species list. The Daily Mail reports that Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) has warned that ChatGPT should not be considered a substitute for human workers. However, this research is similar to a Princeton study that found AI could threaten 20 professions including teachers, telemarketers, and school psychologists.

Many of us laughed a bit when fast food started terminating counter jobs at the automated kiosk in our lobby. That was how a $15/hour minimum wage earned someone, we thought. That was called karma. We thought it would end there.
