Jerry Springer Dead at 79-Years-Old

Jerry Springer died at the age of 79, just months after he was diagnosed with cancer. His family made the announcement on Thursday.

A spokesman for his family said that the legendary TV host died ‘peacefully at home’ in Chicago after his health started to deteriorate.

Jene Galvin, a family spokesperson, said that Jerry’s ability to relate with people was the key to his success. This was true whether it was in politics, broadcasting and even just making jokes with people who asked for a picture or wanted to talk.

“He is irreplaceable, and his loss is devastating, but the memories of his intelligence, humor, and heart will endure.”

Jerry Springer hosted the hit show “The Jerry Springer Show” for 27 years. It became America’s guilty delight with wild and raucous television moments.

His audience would cheer as his guests got into crazy fights, with many expletive-filled rants being bleeped.

Springer referred to it as ‘escapist’ entertainment while others viewed the show’s contribution to a dumbing down of American social values.

He would often tell people in jest that he wished they never appeared on his show.

The worldwide sensation, before becoming an icon of TV, ran a failed US Congress campaign in 1970

In 1971, he was elected to the Cincinnati City Council. He served as mayor for a single term until 1977.

Springer began his career as a commentator and news anchor at WLWT, a local station in Ohio. In 1991, he took on a brand new role by launching his iconic talk show Jerry Springer.

In the 90s, his show was so successful that it even topped Oprah Winfrey in some cities.

Springer’s courtroom show ‘Judge Jerry’ ran for three seasons after the show ended in 2018.

Last season, he made his final TV appearance on The Masked Singer as “The Beetle” to perform a Frank Sinatra Classic.

Springer is survived by his daughter Katie (whom he shared with Micki Velton) and his sister Evelyn.

The star was conceived in Highgate Tube Station, which his parents used as a bomb shelter.

Richard and Margot were German Jews who fled England during the Holocaust. Other relatives were murdered in Nazi gas chambers.

Springer, who is a lifelong Yankees fan, got his first Yankees gear in Queens Borough of New York City when he was five.

He earned a law degree at Northwestern University after studying political science at Tulane University.

Springer entered the political scene as an assistant in Robert F. Kennedy’s disastrous 1968 presidential campaign.

He initially blamed “very personal family concerns”, but later it was revealed that he paid prostitutes using personal checks, which was investigated.

He married Micki Velton the year before. The couple divorced in 1995 after having a daughter named Katie.

Springer bounced back quickly in politics, winning a seat on the council in 1975 and serving in 1977 as mayor. In 1991, he began his legendary talk show series as a host and a commentator for WLWT.

Norma Rashid, along with her co-anchor, helped turn WLWT-TV into the top-rated news program in Cincinnati.

Springer’s talk show began in 1991, with a more traditional format. But after he left WLWT, in 1993, the show got a sleazy revamp.

TV Guide ranked the show No. It was ranked No. 1 on the list of the ‘Worst Shows of Television History’, but it had a high rating.

Springer became a star, and went on to host the talk show, ‘America’s Got Talent’, and star in a film called ‘Ringmaster’, as well as competed on ‘Dancing With the Stars’.

Springer stated in 2011 that despite all the jokes he makes with the show, ‘I’m aware of the fact and I thank God each day for the incredible turn my life has taken because of this silly program.
