Lawmakers Tout Effort To Prevent A.I. From Launching Nuclear Weapon

During an interview on FNC’s America’s Newsroom, Reps. Ken Buck and Ted Lieu spoke about their bipartisan efforts to eliminate the possibility that artificial intelligence (A.I. Launching nuclear weapons.

According to Lieu a panel experts estimated that the chances of this happening were 36%.

“Well, A.I. Buck replied, “Well, A.I. Unfortunately, Congress has not been focusing on this issue for quite some time. What I believe is essential – I’m so happy that Ted presented this bill to me, and included me in it. We want to ensure that a human is involved in the launch of a nuclear device if we ever need to do so. You see sci-fi films where the world is outta control due to A.I. A.I. “We’re going human in this process.”

Bill Hemmer, the host, replied “Yes.” “Congressman Lieu – this is from Stanford, yes? I’m talking about 36% of the A.I. Experts are concerned that automated systems may cause a nuclear catastrophe. I think 36% is a bit high. You want to set that sucker to zero, don’t ya?

“Thank you, Bill, for your question,” Lieu said. “It is an honor to work with Ken Buck, my colleague and friend. In 2015, we were both in the freshman class. We both served as freshman class presidents. We have worked on many issues and are now working on the issue of ensuring that A.I. is never allowed to control automated nuclear weapons. We cannot let A.I. control automated nuclear weapons, because there must always be a human involved.”

“And you are right,” he continued. We can’t allow a 36% possibility of a disaster to happen. There can be no chance at all.
