Washington, D.C., a Democrat city, just recorded 72 homicides over the last 122 days. I’m sure the problem is guns, those evil inanimate objects, and not criminals or soft-on-crime Democrats.
Adam Shaatal is the Chief Steward for the Criminal Investigations Division of the DC Police Union. He tweeted: “#WashingtonDC has just recorded its 72nd homicide in 122 days following another double shooting. The DC Council’s urgent need to fully staff the police department and support it has never been greater. ”
In March, WUSA9 reported that the average DC homicide victim has been arrested 11 times. This is insane. What makes Democrats let these dangerous criminals roam the streets so often?
In 2001, the average DC suspect for murder had 5.3 arrests before his arrest. Over time, Democrat policies tend to make it rarer for a suspect to have 11 arrests before his arrest.
WUSA9 reported in late June 2022, that “the district had crossed the grim threshold”, of 100 homicides. It was the first time since 2003 that this threshold had been met. DC has now reached that threshold in just 122 days.
The New York Post reported in January about the “murder explosion” that was sweeping DC. In 2021 and 2022, there were more than 200 murders per year.
“[A] new law guts mandatory-minimum sentencing and eliminates ‘three strikes’ provisions,” the Post added. And, unsurprisingly, there are now more homicides. Black children are too often the victims of shootings as murders occur mostly in DC’s black neighborhoods, the Post reported. Because Democrats don’t really care about black Americans or children—they just pretend to care when it’s politically expedient.
According to The Daily Caller’s report, the DC Metropolitan Police Department budget will be reduced by $15 Million in 2020. Mayor Bowser has tried to rectify the situation by increasing the funding for police.
This is not enough. DC requires comprehensive criminal justice reforms that punish violent criminals instead of rewarding them. However, Democrats do not want to implement this.
