Bail Sought by South Carolina Suspect in Fatal DUI Crash that Killed Bride

According to local news, the suspect accused of killing a South Carolina newlywed bride in a drunken-driving accident last month apologized by phone to her friends and family.

According to court records, Jamie Lee Komoroski (25) allegedly crashed her red Toyota Camry into Aric Hutchinson’s and Samantha Miller’s golf cart minutes after they left their wedding reception in Folly Beach. The bride was killed in the crash, while the groom was injured.

“I can’t believe this is my life… and my whole life is going to be over,” she said through sobs in jailhouse recordings obtained by The Post and Courier. “Oh, my God. I just can’t believe this happened to me.… Why me?… I’m going to be here for years and years and years and years.”

According to the outlet, Komoroski was told by her father during a phone call that she should “suck it up” and “be strong” in a call with Charleston County Jail.

She said: “I want to get it over.”

Miller was killed instantly in the April 28 collision. She was wearing her wedding dress. Hutchinson suffered facial fractures, broken bones, and bleeding in the brain. The other two family members who were in the golf cart survived.

According to the police, Komoroski drove at 65 mph while in a zone of 25 mph. Her blood alcohol level was also three times greater than the legal limit.

According to court records, the Coastal Carolina University grad worked at a Mexican restaurant on Folly Beach. He faces three counts of felony DUI that result in significant bodily injury or death and one count of reckless homicide.

The detention logs obtained by The Post and Courier show that Komoroski became hysterical and threatened to harm herself after being arrested. Komoroski continued to bang her head on a nurse’s desk after being detained. She also continued to cry and bang against the table even after she had been placed in a restraint chair.

The Post and Courier reported that a deputy wrote, “Resident should be closely monitored.”

“I hope and pray that the judge understands and accepts my remorse and regret, that I am a good man, and that I will never do anything again bad,” Komoroski said, her eyes puffy from tears.

In other phone conversations obtained by the outlet, Komoroski expressed regret over the incident. She said that she didn’t want people to see her as a bad woman.

According to The Post and Courier, she said, while on the phone with a group of friends, “There were people who killed people deliberately and got out on bail.”

She described the accident as a “freak event”.

“I didn’t plan for this to happen.” “I feel awful,” she said.

She told her friends that it only takes one mistake to make them regret their actions.

In a subsequent call, Komoroski informed her parents that she relies on her faith to remain positive. She expressed her desire to apologize to the newlyweds family.

In a video obtained from The Post & Courier by Komoroski, he cried in tears and said: “I hope and pray that the judge will realize how sorry I am. I also hope that I’ll never do anything wrong again. ”

In an official press release, attorneys Nathan S. Williams and Christopher S. Gramiccioni warned people to not rush to judgment.

The lawyers said, “We cannot imagine the pain and suffering that these families must be experiencing. We offer our deepest sympathies.” We request that the court not rush to judgment. It was founded on the principles of justice and mercy, and there all the facts can be revealed.

Since Miller’s death, a GoFundMe account for the couple “Sam and Aric” has raised more than $730,000.
