A bodycam video captures the moment when police confronted a New Mexico teenager over her dead baby found in a hospital trash can. Authorities suspect that the teen killed her baby in a bathroom of a hospital. She has been charged with murder.
Alexee Trevizo was charged with first-degree murder, willful and intentional, and tampering with evidence last week. The charges stemmed from the death of the woman’s baby who was found dead in a hospital garbage can.
Trevizo, who complained of lower back pain on Jan. 27, was brought to the Artesia General Hospital Emergency Room.
The teenager told the medical staff that she was not expecting it. The hospital staff suspected that the teen was pregnant and conducted some tests. The teen denied having sex, but tests revealed that Trevizo was pregnant.
Trevizo is alleged to have locked herself inside a bathroom at a hospital for about 20 minutes. According to a doctor who was interviewed by police and seen on a bodycam video by the Artesia Police Department, when Trevizo opened the door the hospital staff found “blood everywhere.”
The hospital’s custodian noticed that the bag of trash was very heavy while cleaning the bathroom. She allegedly looked inside the bag and discovered a dead infant.
Police said that the teenager delivered the child to the bathroom and placed it in a trash bag.
The doctor told the police that the woman had placed the baby in a trash can, and then put another liner on top.
“The baby is dead,” the doctor said. “She killed the kid.”
He continued, “She had the drug in the bathroom and whatever else she did — I don’t even know what she did — she will lie.” “She would not tell us that she was pregnant. She has been lying all the time.”
The shocking footage from a police bodycam shows Trevizo’s mother and the officer telling them that a newborn found dead in the trash was a full-term baby.
Trevizo’s mom is shocked when she learns that her daughter was 9 months pregnant.
Her mother exclaimed, “Lexee I told you this.” “I asked you to tell the truth, baby.”
The mother tells her daughter: “Lexee have you seen the news? Girls are going to jail for what they do to their babies.”
Alexee claimed that the baby didn’t cry when it was born.
“I’m sorry. It came out of me and I didn’t know what to do,” she pleaded.
The Office of the Medical Investigator of New Mexico conducted an autopsy of the infant and determined that the cause of death was homicide.
Gary Mitchell, Trevizo’s lawyer, declared that his client had no criminal history and the murder charge was too harsh.
“I have grave concerns with the first-degree murder charge in this case.” Mitchell said, “You can bet on your life that we will defend this case tenaciously.”
Trevizo pleaded guilty to all charges brought against her.
