President Biden said Tuesday that he is “very proud” of his son Hunter Biden who entered a plea deal on federal tax charges.
A reporter shouted a question about Hunter Biden Tuesday afternoon as the president was discussing artificial intelligence in San Francisco in his first public speech since news of his son’s plea deal became public Tuesday morning.
A reporter shouted: “Mr. President, have you spoken to your son today?” After Biden finished speaking, he asked for the media to leave.
The president smiled and said “I’m very proud of my daughter,” echoing a statement made by the White House earlier in the day.
Fox News reported on Tuesday that Hunter Biden will plead guilty to misdemeanor charges for willful failure to pay federal income tax.
The defendant will also sign a pretrial settlement in relation to the separate offense of possessing a firearm by someone who is addicted to controlled substances or uses them illegally.
The White House had announced that President Obama would be speaking at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco around 1 p.m. But he will likely face questions from reporters about his son’s guilty verdict.
The President will attend at least two more events before leaving San Francisco.
On Tuesday, the White House responded to these allegations.
Ian Sams, White House spokesperson, stated in a White House press release that “the First Lady and President love their son. They are supporting him while he rebuilds his own life.” “We don’t have any more comments. ”
Hunter’s criminal attorney, Chris Clark of Clark Smith Villazor, said: “It’s my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is over with the announcement of the agreements between Hunter Biden’s office and the United States Attorney’s Office of the District of Delaware.”
Clark said that Hunter would be responsible for two misdemeanors due to failure to pay taxes on time, according to the plea deal. In addition, the Government will file a firearms charge which will be handled under a pretrial deferral and not the agreement.
Clark said: “I can understand Hunter’s belief in the importance of accepting responsibility for his mistakes during a period of turmoil and drug addiction. Hunter is eager to move forward and continue his recovery.
Biden has been stepping up his 2024 campaign ever since he arrived on Monday. He has held four fundraising events.
