Xiomara Cruz, Honduran President, condemned the “monstrous murder” of 46 prisoner. She blamed street-gangs. Authorities found dozens of bodies after the fighting subsided. The victims may not have had any connection to the two gangs that started the fight.

Yuri Mora, the spokesperson of the Honduran national investigation agency is available for comment. He stated that 26 prisoners died from burning and the other victims were gunshots, stabbings, or by being stabbed.

Castro stated that her government will take “dramatic” measures once it is determined that the riot was “planned by street-gangs, with the consent of security authorities and knowledge.” The officials didn’t know how the street gangs managed to sneak weapons inside the prison.

Castro stated that many women have died in fires. Castro expressed her “solidarity with the families” and pledged to increase efforts “to fight organized crime and destroy the boycott against safety that is encouraged by prisons.” ”

The worst incident of this type occurred in Honduras in 2012 when 361 prisoners were killed in a fire.

Officials describe the deaths of prisoners as “terrorism”, but admit that some prisons or parts of them are controlled by gangs.

Julissa Villanueva, the head of the criminal system in the nation, is in charge. She suggested that the riots were caused by government raids on prisons across the country, which were conducted to remove powerful gangs and security guards taking bribes in exchange for their assistance.

Villanueva promised that the government would “not give up” despite the significant resistance they face.
