Stephen King is a prolific writer, and some of his books have been turned into movies.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t make him the smartest person. As I’ve reported before, King was fooled by pranksters into thinking he was speaking to Volodymyr Zelensky. He ended up calling Nazi collaborator Stepan Bandera a “great person.”
It’s clear that he is a liberal zealot. Even though he is a liberal himself, his new view on the First Amendment seems bizarre.
Right-wingers furiously defend the Second Amendment. The first, which includes the right to read? Not so much.

“Right-wingers fiercely defend the Second Amendment.” First Amendment, including the right to learn? “Not so much”, King said. Yes, King did put those spaces between the words to enhance his hot take.
It’s funny to hear him talk about the “right of reading” when it seems he’s never even read the First Amendment. It’s as if he is trying to rewrite the First Amendment to suit his argument.
What it says
Congress may not pass any law that prohibits the free practice of religion or restricts the freedom of expression or of the media or limits the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government for a remedy of grievances.
Stephen does not seem to be aware of the other rights that exist. He does, however, write fiction.
In his muddled language, he is trying to say that the right-wingers are “banning books”. No one from the right is doing this. They are against things like sexually explicit texts in schools. This is not a ban — anyone can read or buy the book. Books have always been evaluated by schools based on their suitability for students. King’s imagined right to demand that schools provide sexually explicit texts for indoctrination is not a requirement. Is it a ban if the school does not provide Playboy or Penthouse? It’s not. The people who are on the left and make this argument, however, are basically arguing for the inclusion of such explicit books in schools. They believe that the First Amendment “protects” them from this.
I reported previously about Nikki Fried’s dishonest attack against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for “banning” books in the same way and ended up exposing her by posting porn. At this point, liberals have retreated to that place. They have gone completely crazy in their attempts to attack Republicans and push an extreme agenda.
While King tries to twist the First Amendment into an unrecognizable pretzel he does everything he can to ignore or misrepresent the Second Amendment. Liberals also have problems with the part of the First Amendment which talks about the “free exercise” of religion. These rights seem to be less valuable than those that King invents.
The Americans have given him the rating he deserves.
Theyre perfectly free to read whatever they want, not via the department of education. They can purchase whatever books they chose, their parents can as well.
The 2nd amendment is absolute, but I don’t get upset they don’t teach an AR 15 armorers course in kindergarten (would be…— 9mmSMG (@9mm_smg) May 26, 2023
Which party tried to launch a Ministry of Truth, Steve?
Which party colluded with social media to kick writers off of their platforms and silence opposing views?
You…you’re not very good at this, are you?

“The First Amendment allows us to have porn in schools” is certainly a take https://t.co/3Bh4rXWlP2
