Susanna is a nurse practitioner and married with two kids. She is also a Democrat running for a hotly contested Virginia House of Delegates District 57 seat in Richmond.
She’s not getting much attention on Tuesday because of her political views, but rather for what she did on the adult streaming site Chaturbate. She performed various sex acts with her husband live in videos, and she asked people to pay “tokens”, or money to see more.
The Washington Post reported that the 40-year-old nurse practitioner had hosted more than 12 live romps on the platform with her husband. These were then archived on Recurbate, a website accessible to the public, in September 2022, after she announced her candidacy.
The unconventional candidate was a Chaturbate fanatic with more than 5,770 followers. She repeatedly asked for “tokens” to be exchanged for specific acts during “private” shows, adding that she “raised money for a great cause.”
The Washington Post reported that they were tipped off about the leak by a “GOP activist.”
You might expect her to be embarrassed by this news. She calls it an “illegal invasion of my privacy intended to humiliate me, my family, and myself.” She blames her opponents and Republicans.
Gibson stated that the incident would not intimidate him or silence him. “My political enemies and their Republican allies are willing to commit a sexual crime in order to attack me and my family because they will cross any line to silence women who speak out.”
Her lawyer claims that the release of these videos may have violated the revenge porn laws of the state.
Her Republican opponent said he was not involved and just learned about it “like everyone else.”
He said, “I know this is a tough time for Susanna’s family and myself. I am focusing on my campaign.” The operative that tipped the post off denied any connections to Owen or GOP groups in the election.
I understand that Gibson is trying to get out of this scandal by blaming the people who noticed, but it was reported that she had been engaging in these activities. What she says about her opponents doesn’t change the fact. This is similar to the way we hear about the Republicans pounce in the media, which is meant to distract from the larger story. The “pouncing” is not the main story.
You had people like the NY Times who were happy to oblige you with an “aggressive” angle.
Susanna Gibson, a Democratic candidate in a race for the Virginia General Assembly, denounced reports that she and her husband had performed on a sexually explicit site, calling the leaks about the online activity “an illegal invasion of my privacy.” https://t.co/SxXA48W50U

Democrats, however, are trying to use this to fundraise which is a bit nerve-wracking.
Today Glenn Youngkin’s team leaked videos of @SusannaSGibson to try to embarrass and humiliate her and they failed completely.
Now we are going to make this the biggest fundraising day of her campaign.

Virginia has already shown that Democrats are having trouble. Glenn Youngkin, the current governor of Virginia, rose to power because of issues such as parental rights at schools. We saw that he was a strong supporter of parents, and pardoned a dad who the Loudon County Board had arrested. But while Republicans are standing up for parents, Gibson’s behavior seems to be just cool with Democrats. I don’t think it will go over very well in Virginia, but I could be wrong.
