New Details in Dem’s Carjacking Claim Raise Questions

Shivanthi Sathanandan is the second vice chair of the Democrat Farmer Labor Party, which is a Democrat-affiliated party in Minnesota. She claimed to have been carjacked in the driveway of her home in Minneapolis. Her young children were present. It was a terrifying incident. She claimed that she was attacked by four armed men, and sustained a broken foot and other injuries.

Sathanandan was angry at the attackers and demanded they be held responsible for their crimes. In her Facebook post, she also praised the police, a surprising change, since three years earlier, she was calling for the dismantlement of the Minneapolis Police Department, who had come to her rescue. In the past, she also backed gun control, when a gun could have helped her defend herself against armed attackers.

Some on the Internet questioned the story. They asked about the attack, the bloody picture, and if someone with a broken foot could stand up and take a photo like that. The police report may provide some additional information to clarify these questions.

The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) sent a copy of the police report from the officer who responded to Sathanandan’s 9-1-1 call. The MPD report notes there were two victims and two eyewitnesses. Sathanandan was labeled as victim one who had “possible internal injury, other major injury.”

“Officers responded to a Robbery of a Person. Officers arrived, gathered evidence, and aired out the suspect info. The victim’s vehicle was later abandoned by the Suspects and recovered. Car 21 arrived to process the scenes and BWC (body-worn cameras) was activated,” the report goes on to say.

It would seem that the police are confirming her injuries, which included a “major” injury (probably a leg injury). Sathanandan mentioned that neighbors came to her assistance. The neighbors could include the other victims or witnesses. Police also helped to recover her vehicle.

A journalist affiliated with Alpha News, Liz Collin has made an unconfirmed claim. According to the report, Sathanandan complained to the Mayor that it took the police five minutes to arrive.

It seems incongruous with her later praise of the police when she thanked them. If Collins’ report is accurate, then five minutes in Minneapolis seems to be a lot, even if it’s not. If she complains about it, she is demanding more than most people. She should also be thankful that the police arrived and not a social worker. If she and her fellow Democrats had been successful in dismantling police, they would not have arrived at all, let alone in just five minutes.

Once the body camera footage is received, we will have more information about her response to the police and their actions. After her remarks about wanting to “dismantle”, I am curious to know how she interacted with the police.
